Tolls, ferry charges and electronic toll systems (e toll)
During the rental period, you are fully responsible for the payment of all tolls, ferry charges and similar road or usage fees incurred in connection with your use of the vehicle, regardless of the method of collection (including, but not limited to, physical toll booths, license plate recognition systems or electronic toll systems (e toll)).
In countries or areas where tolls are collected based on license plate recognition (without physical barriers or on-site notifications), you are responsible for correctly and timely registering the vehicle with the relevant toll provider(s) and for ensuring timely payment of all amounts due.
If any tolls or ferry charges are not paid (on time) and Hertz receives a request for payment, fine, surcharge or any related charges from a third party, Hertz reserves the right to charge you the full amount of such costs, together with an administration fee of €32.50 per event (or the applicable fee at the time).
You are also responsible for deregistering the vehicle from any toll or e Toll registration immediately upon termination of the rental. If you fail to deregister the vehicle in a timely manner, you remain liable for all resulting costs, including charges incurred by third parties after the end of your rental period.
Hertz accepts no liability for:
- failure to receive notifications of toll transactions;
- incorrect or incomplete registrations made by you;
- any additional charges resulting from failure to timely register or deregister the vehicle.
Hertz procedure in case of traffic violation
In case of a speeding violation and certain municipal administrative sanctions, we communicate, in accordance with Belgian law (article 67ter), the identity of the driver to the competent authority.
Parking fines and other municipal administrative fines are paid by Hertz upon receipt and are then charged to the renter of the vehicle.
An Administration Charge of €32.50 (including tax) will be charged for each fine processed by Hertz.
In all cases, you will subsequently receive an invoice related to the violation, including Hertz’s Administration Charge as well as the amount of the fine if it was paid by Hertz.
If your invoice remains unpaid (via credit card), please use the following link: https://www.hertzonlinepayments.com.
